PANCHKARMA THERAPY :
The Panchkarma
Therapy comprises of these stages -
PURVAKARMA
nvolves :
(a) Snehana
(Oleation) is essential for repair of cell membrane
damaged by free radicals and it also removes endotoxins from
the cell.
(b) Swedana
(Steam) releases endotoxins from muscular tissues and
accumulates those in gastro-intestinal track for further
disposal.
PRADHANKARMA
- This stage involves five main therapies :
(a) Vamana
(Emesis) is a medicated emesis therapy which evacuates
vitiated Doshas (Kapha) in the upper body. This is done by
stimulating the emetic center of brain, i.e. without local
stimulation. This therapy is effective in treating patients
with Bronchial Asthma, Chronic Allergies, Hay fever, Vitiligo,
Psoriasis, Hyperacidity, Chronic Indigestion, Nasal
congestion, Edema, Obesity, Psychological disorders, Skin
disorders.
(b) Virechana
(Purgation) is a medicated purgation therapy which removes
Pitta toxins from the body that are accumulated in the liver
and gall bladder. It completely cleanses the gastro-intestinal
tract without affecting the electrolyte balance. This therapy
is effective in treating patients with Diabetes, Asthma, Joint
Disorders, Digestive disorders, Skin disorders such as Herpes,
Paraplegia, Constipation, Hyperacidity, Vitiligo, Psoriasis,
Headaches, Elephantiasis and Gynecological disorders and
fever.
(c) Basti
(Enema or Colonic Irrigation) cleanses accumulated toxins
through the colon. This treatment is effective as no drug is
required to go through metabolism, but directly absorbed in
intestinal circulation reflecting into the neurological
system. Two type of Basti therapies are performed at the
Hospital -
This type of
treatment is useful in treating patients with Hemiplegia
irritable bowel Syndrome, Constipation, Digestive disorders,
Paraplegia, Colitis, Convalescence, Cervical Spondylosis,
Backache & Sciatica, Obesity, Piles and Infertility.
(d) Nasya
(Nose cleaning) involves administration of medicated oil
through the nose to cleanse accumulated Kapha toxins from the
head and neck region. The therapy is used to treat patients
with Insomnia, Facial Palsy, Elimination of excess mucus,
Hyper pigmentation in the face, Premature graying of hair,
clarity to voice, Headaches of various origin, Loss of smell
and taste, Migraine, Stiffness of the neck, Nasal allergies,
Nasal Polyp, Neurological dysfunctions, Sinusitis, improving
memory and eye sight.
